NORFOLK, VA -Former Old Dominion men's soccer standout Attila Vendegh, the all-time leading scorer in school history, signed a two year contract today with the Atlanta Silverbacks of A-League Soccer, the same league as the Hampton Roads Mariners.

"It's really hard to start playing soccer professionally right away," Vendegh, who went undrafted in the Major League Soccer Draft last month, said. "I'm hoping signing with Atlanta will be a stepping stone for playing professionally in the future."

Vendegh participated in the Los Angeles Galaxy training camp earlier this month, but with the recent acquisition of two top international players, there were no longer any spaces available on the team roster. Atlanta's season will begin April 24, with preseason camp starting April 1. In the meantime, Vendegh will train with the ODU men's soccer team as much as he can to prepare for the upcoming season.
