NORFOLK, VA (Sept. 12) - Old Dominion senior Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY) scored two goals in the first half and senior goalkeeper Chuck Connelly (Rockville, MD) shut down the Hokie offense to lead the Monarchs to a 2-0 victory over Virginia Tech. Old Dominion improves to 3-1-0 on the season, while Tech drops to 3-1-0.

Tanner scored on the first two shots of the game for the Monarchs, knocking the first shot in at the 6:37 mark on assists from Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY) and Tommy Barnicle (Liverpool, England). The second goal came just four minutes later as he blasted the second shot of the game in off the assist by Mendes.

Connelly made four saves in the net for Old Dominion and recorded his second shutout of the season and 12th of his career. For their efforts, Old Dominion freshman Anders Haugom (Norway), along with Connelly and Tanner, were voted to the All Tournament team.
