Men's Soccer Tops Tribe, 2-1, Remain Undefeated in CAA
Senior forward Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY) put the Monarchs on the board in the third minute of the game on a five yard give-and-go blast from Tooley. William and Mary immediately countered, as Garrett Chittum landed the Tribe's first strike in the fourth minute on an assist from Brian Hinkey.
Then, with the scored knotted at one, Tooley dribbled the ball left towards the box and, with three defenders surrounding him, reversed directions and launched a 20 yard blast into the left side of the goal past W&M All-American keeper Adin Brown.
In the second half, the both teams had scoring opportunities. The Monarchs, protecting the one goal lead, concentrated on the defensive side of the ball and denied all seven of William and Mary's shots, with senior goalkeeper Chuck Connelly (Rockville, MD) making two game-winning saves in the last five minutes to secure the victory.
Old Dominion wins its fifth CAA game of the season, its most since the 1991 season in which they won the CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA?s. The Monarchs have never won more than five CAA games in one season.
The team returns to action on Saturday, October 16, as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the University of Pennsylvania at 2:30 pm.
