MONARCH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bobby Foglesong Earns MVP
Sept. 16, 2009
NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior midfielder Bobby Foglesong (Fredericksburg, Va.) earns this week's Monarch Player of the Week honor after taking home MVP hardware at the 34th Annual STIHL Soccer Classic and being named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Foglesong was tabbed MVP of the in-season tournament hosted by Old Dominion after anchoring the midfield of the Monarchs en route to a pair of victories. Foglesong shored up the defense and helped the Monarchs post two shutouts. He also scored a goal, his second of the season, against Temple in the Sunday game, helping lead ODU past the Owls by a final, 4-0.
Foglesong's efforts in the two games helped ODU bring home the Queen's Cup and the STIHL Soccer Classic title for the first time in five years. College Soccer News also named the senior Monarch to its National Team of the Week after his impressive performance in the two games.
He will return to the field with the rest of the Monarch soccer team on Friday night as the second match of a doubleheader scheduled with the women's team. The ODU men will face Penn State at 8:00 pm after the women square off against Radford at 6:00 pm.
