AU Defeats ODU, 2-0 In Exhibition

NORFOLK, VA--Second half goals from Larry Mark and Phillip Purdy lifted the Eagles of American University to a 2-0 exhibition win over the Monarchs of Old Dominion Saturday evening.

After a scoreless first half, Purdy scored off a rebound to give AU a 1-0 lead with just a little over two minutes into the half. With 12:05 left in the match Larry Mark got a pass from Lucas Dowiak to finish the scoring at 2-0.

ODU outshot AU, 18-6 as goalkeeper Chris Sedlak had seven saves in 75 minutes of play for AU. Zach Solomon played the final 20 minutes in net for the Eagles. ODU freshman goalkeeper Evan Newton had two saves for the Monarchs.

ODU, a pre-season number 20 by College Soccer News returns to action next Saturday in Blacksburg when they play Virginia Tech in an exhibition match at 7 p.m. The Monarchs open the regular season at home on Aug. 25th against defending national champion Maryland.
