NORFOLK, VA (Oct. 9, 2003) - The Old Dominion men's and women's soccer teams are in action this weekend for a combined three-game home-stand. The second-ranked men's team will play games against UNC-Wilmington (8-2-1) and Virginia Commonwealth University (7-3-0), while the women's team hosts Virginia Tech (7-5-0).

The men's soccer team will kick off the weekend Friday night at 7:00 PM against UNC-Wilmington, in what will be the team's first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season. ODU comes into the game with an 8-0-0 record and a #2 ranking in the Soccer America poll. The Monarchs rank first in the NCAA in Goals Against Average (0.00) and have yet to allow a goal this season despite playing three ranked opponents and two top-five teams. The Seahawks rank 13th nationally in Goals Against Average (0.53). Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) leads the team with six goals and Defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) has been named National Player of the Week earlier this season and was named the tournament MVP at both the Cal-Berkeley and Stihl Soccer Classic tournaments.

Against UNC-Wilmington, ODU is 8-3-0 all-time, and the Monarchs have won the last three meetings. The men's team next plays Sunday, Oct. 12, at 1:00 PM against VCU. ODU holds a 16-6-4 all-time advantage in the series, but the last four games have gone to overtime resulting in two ties, a four-overtime loss and a 1-0 double-overtime victory. VCU had a #11 ranking in the preseason poll and has accumulated a 7-3-0 record so far this season.

For the second part of the Sunday double-header, the women's team returns to action against Virginia Tech. The game will start approximately 30 minutes after the ODU-VCU men's soccer game. ODU comes in to the match with a 1-5-3 record, with a 0-3-1 Colonial Athletic Association mark, but eight of the Lady Monarchs' nine games have been decided by a goal or less.
