VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (November 2, 2006) - Three Old Dominion Soccer Monarchs were selected To the 2006 Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference team. Junior defender David Horst (Pine Grove, PA. ) was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Senior forward Edson Elcock (Brooklyn, NY.) and senior midfielder Jared Kent (Marietta, GA.) also earned first team All-CAA honors. Freshman goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, Va.) was selected to the All-Rookie team.

Elcock led the CAA in scoring with 26 points on ten goals and six assists, while Kent tied Elcock for Fourth in the league with six assists. Horst anchored an Old Dominion defense that surrendered just 18 goals in 18 matches this season and recorded eight shutouts. The junior center back was the leader of a defensive unit that included a freshman goalkeeper and two freshmen defenders. The 23rd-ranked Monarchs, who posted double-digit wins for the fifth straight year, had a string of five straight shutouts early in the season.

Evan Newton, who missed five games because of an injury ranked third in the CAA with six shutouts and a 0.46 shutout per game average.

ODU ended the regular season in a three-way tie for second and will be the number three seed in the Tournament. The Monarchs will meet second seed Hofstra Friday night at 7:30 p.m., in a rematch of The last two CAA finals.

The CAA also honored Hofstra senior forward Michael Todd, who ranks among national leaders in goals and points per game as the 2006 CAA Men's Soccer Player of the Year in voting by the league's head coaches.

George Mason freshman goalkeeper Sean Kelley as CAA Rookie of the Year and Towson head coach Frank Olszewski as CAA Coach of the Year. The awards were presented Thursday night on the eve of the semifinals and finals of the CAA Men's Soccer Championship in Virginia Beach.

Todd tallied a team-high 10 goals and three assists in just 14 contests for Hofstra this season. He led the league and ranked among the top 20 in Division I in goals per game (.71) and points per game (1.64). Todd, a three-time first team All-CAA selection, was the Pride's top goal scorer during all four of his seasons and ranks third in career goals (37) and points (93) at Hofstra. Todd, who was also a third team Academic All-American in 2005, is Hofstra's first CAA Player of the Year in men's soccer.

Kelley had a sensational rookie campaign, playing every minute in goal for a George Mason squad that recorded its most overall wins since 1998 with a 12-5-1 mark. The freshman keeper leads the CAA with 11 shutouts, which is nearly double of any other goalie in the league. He is also second in the conference and among the top 15 players in Division I in goals against average (0.60) and save percentage (.884). Kelley was third in the league with 84 saves.

Olszewski guided Towson to a sparkling 14-1-2 overall record and an unbeaten 10-0-1 mark in CAA play. The Tigers, who are ranked #12 this week by College Soccer News, enter the CAA Tournament riding a 12-match unbeaten streak and have won 10 straight, which is just one shy of a school record. Towson's 10 CAA wins are a league record and the Tigers out-scored opponents 20-6 in conference play. The Coach of the Year honor is the first for Olszewski in the CAA, but his fourth overall. He was the East Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 1989 and the America East Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1998.

Hofstra, Old Dominion and Towson each placed three players on the All-CAA first team. Joining Todd from Hofstra were junior midfielder Chris Cox and senior defender Gary Flood. Along with Horst from ODU were senior forward Edson Elcock (10g, 6a) and senior midfielder Jared Kent. Earning first team honors from Towson were senior forward Sebastian Haensel (7g, 7a), junior midfielder Pat Healey and senior defender Nigel Marples.

Rounding out the first team were James Madison senior midfielder Kurt Morsink, a three-time first team pick who was second in the CAA with 24 points on nine goals and six assists, and UNC Wilmington senior goalkeeper Brad Knighton, who complied a 0.83 GAA with 72 saves and six shutouts.
