Attila Vendegh To Participate in 2003 Major League Soccer Player Combine
Dec. 3, 2003
NORFOLK, VA -Old Dominion Senior Forward Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia), the Monarchs' all-time leading scorer with 56 goals, 22 assists and 134 points and two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, will participate in the 2004 Major League Soccer Player Combine January 10-13 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Vendegh had 10 goals, six assists and 26 points in 2003, as he helped lead the Monarchs to the second round of the NCAA Men's College Cup for the second consecutive year.
The Player Combine is designed to give Major League Soccer Coaches an opportunity to evaluate talent in preparation for the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, which will be held at the NSCAA Convention in Charlotte, NC on January 16, 2004. Only 60 players from around the world are given the opportunity to participate in the Player Combine, and only the All-Stars of NCAA soccer, as selected by a coaches committee, are allowed to participate.
"We think Attila will get a long, hard look at from the top pro clubs," ODU Head Coach Alan Dawson said. "We're very optimistic that he'll get selected in the draft."
Four Monarchs were also named to the 2003 NSCAA All-South Region Team, which was released Wednesday. Senior Goalkeeper Samuel Cameron (Raleigh, NC), Junior Defender Trevor McEachron (Woodbridge, VA) and Attila Vendegh were named to the Team after outstanding seasons. In addition, Junior Midfielder Kevon Harris (Kingston, Jamaica) was named to the Second-Team. The National All-America Men's Soccer teams will be announced later this month.
