Kinney's Overtime Goal Lifts ODU Into CAA Semi-Finals With 1-0 Win Over UNCW

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University senior forward Zachary Kinney (Portland, TX.) scored 2:40 into the first overtime period to give the Monarchs (13-4-1) a 1-0 victory over UNC Wilmington (11-7-1) Tuesday night.
The victory sends the 23rd ranked Monarchs into the CAA semi-finals Friday night against second seeded Hofstra at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. George Mason who beat Northeastern tonight will play top seed Towson at 5 p.m.
Both teams had opportunities in regulation as Edson Elcock hit the post at the 9:20 mark of the first half and UNCW's David Acosta also hit the post in the second half.
In the overtime period Edson Elcock got the ball to the right side of the Field and passed to Kinney just outside the box and he punched it in to the leftside of the net for the game winner.
ODU outshot UNCW, 15-8 as Brad Knighton had four saves for the Seahawks. ODU's Evan Newton had one save. ODU and Hofstra have met in the last two CAA finals.
