Trevor Banks Overtime Goals Gives ODU, 2-1 Win Over VCU

NORFOLK, VA--Trevor Banks scored with 1:10 left in the second overtime period to give the Monarchs (6-4-1/3-0) a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth (5-3-2/1-2) Friday evening in front of a crowd 1,006 at the ODU Soccer Stadium. With the win, ODU remains unbeaten in the CAA .

VCU scored first 23 minutes into the match as Sven Meusch got a give-and go from Carlos Herdy and Matthijs Maruanaya after a steal. ODU got the equalizer 16 minutes later on a free kick by Ollie Lutton who headed in a pass with assists from David Horst and A.J. Kulp.

The winning goal again came on a free kick on almost the exact same play with sssists again from seniors Horst and Kulp. Banks leads the Monarchs in scoring with three goals, two assists and eight points.

ODU outshot VCU, 18-8 as VCU keeper Andrew Dykstra had eight saves. The Monarchs host James Madison Sunday at 1 p.m.
