FINAL INDIVIDUAL STANDINGS

PINEHURST, N.C. –
The Old Dominion men’s golf team placed sixth at the 2013 Pinehurst Intercollegiate tournament after shooting a team total of 301 in the third and final day of competition. The Monarchs tied for sixth place with Belmont University.

Thomas Wilde shot a 74 today, giving him a 223 three-day total and ended-up tying for 14th place. Wilde finished only nine strokes back from the Pinehurst individual champion, Tyler Merkel of Ball State. Merkel shot a 71 today, giving him a grand total of 223 for his three days on the links in North Carolina.

Garth McGee shot a 75 in the final day of competition and tied for 17th out of over 90 total golfers.

John Dawson shot an ODU day three best 73, which put him at 226 for the three days and tied for 22nd place.

Jamison Randall shaved two strokes off his score from yesterday and shot a 79 at Pinehurst today. Randall finished tied in 42nd.

Ashton Newsom tied for 48th after shooting an 84 in day three.

Richmond’s Daniel Walker shot a round-three individual best score of 65, which was four strokes better than any other golfer in the field at Pinehurst in day three.

Ball State won the 2013 Pinehurst Intercollegiate title after shooting a 282 as a team today, bringing their three day total to 885. Richmond tied Ball State for the best third round team score of 282. The Spiders tied with VCU for second place.

The Monarchs will be back in action on March 16 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., where ODU will compete in the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic.
