Harris Wins First Round Palmer Cup Golf Match

COUNTY CLARE, IRELAND- Old Dominion University junior golfer Geoffrey Harris (Reading, England) along with Stuart Manley (University of West Florida ) defeated John Klauk (University of Texas) and Hunter Mahan (Oklahoma State)of the United States 5 and 4, but the United States broke a 2-2 tie Thursday afternoon, winning two matches and halving another to take a 4 ˝ to 3 ˝ lead overGreat Britain and Ireland in the sixth annual Palmer Cup at the Doonbeg Golf Club.
Harris, a first team All-CAA and All-State selection, and Manley were leading 2-up after six holes, 3-up after nine and 4-up after 12 holes. On Friday there will be two rounds of singles matches to complete the competition. Harris will meet John Klauk in the morning.
This is the first official competition at the Greg Norman-designed links. The United States has yet to win a Palmer Cup when the event has been held in Great Britain or Ireland. The U.S. lost in1998 and 2000.Complete results can be found on Collegiategolf.com.
