NORFOLK, VA.--Brandon Detweiler, the District and League Champion from Veritas Academy in Akron, PA. and John Murphy, an All-State golfer from Wilton, CT who has placed seventh or better in his last five IJGT tournaments have signed letters-of-intent with Old Dominion University, announced head men's coach Murray Rudisill. They join two-time Delaware State Champion Eric Onesi (Bear,DE.), who signed in the fall as incoming freshmen for the 2006-07 season.

"It is great to be able to sign two more top recruits this spring to complement the early signing of Eric Oensi in the fall," said Rudisill. "Both John and Brandon are excellent golfers with lots of regional and national experience. They are also strong students academically and will receive an academic scholarship as well as a golf scholarship. The future of Old Dominion golf looks very bright with the additions of these three great recruits."

Detweiler won his league title by ten strokes and district championships by eight. He placed 16th in the Pennsylvania State championships. Detweiler's best round was a 67 at the IJGT Nationals in Florida. He won the IJGT tournament at Heritage Hills in Pennsylvania and at Golden Horseshoe in Virginia. He was a medalist qualifier at the US juniors in 2003.

"I really like the southeastern Virginia area," said Detweiler. "I was very impressed with the ODU golf program and coach Rudisill." Detweiler plans to major in business at ODU. He is the son of Marlin and Laurie Detweiler.

John Murphy graduated from Wilton High School in 2005 and is currently at the Ledbetter Academy in Bradenton, FL. At Wilton, he was the Conference Most Valuable Player, leading Wilton to the County Championship and second in the Connecticut State Championships. Individually, Murphy finished eighth in the State Championships and sixth in the County.

Murphy won the Archie Wheeler Invitational with a 67 at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Ct.. He tied for fourth at the AJGA Steel City Juniors tournament in Greenberg, PA. In IJGT tournaments, Murphy took third at the Orange Lake tournament with a 70-75 in Kissemee, FL., and a fourth at the Plantation Inn Tournament in Tampa with a 70-76.

"I fell in love with the school, and the golf facility," said Murphy. "Coach Rudisill has a lot of experience and I feel I can continue to improve my game there." The son of Kevin and Janet Murphy, John plans to major in business at ODU.
