Fox Sports Adds ODU-Charlotte Soccer Match to Schedule

DALLAS, TX--Fox Sports Network (FSN) has announced the addition of two Conference USA soccer matches to its October lineup which includes the Oct. 9 match in Charlotte, NC between ODU and Charlotte.

The first will be played Sunday, October 6, when the Rice women's soccer team hosts Tulsa at 4 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Central. Rice is defending its co-regular season championship from a year ago and the Owls are currently ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA Central Region. Tulsa is off to a 3-0-0 start in non-conference play this season and rank No. 5 in the NSCAA Central Region. TU advanced to the title match of the 2012 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship. Rice will be hosting the 2013 C-USA Championship in Houston Nov. 4-10.

The men take the spotlight on Wednesday, October 9, as Old Dominion visits Charlotte for a 7 p.m. Eastern start. Both teams are new to Conference USA this season, although the 49er program is no stranger to league history.

Charlotte, currently ranked No. 15 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire national poll, was an original league member from 1995-2004. The 49ers return to C-USA having advanced to a pair of College Cups in its history, including the championship game in 2011. Charlotte boasts two Hermann Trophy candidates in Giuseppe Gentile and Tyler Gibson and has appeared in three of the past four NCAA Tournaments.

Old Dominion (1-0) is also receiving votes in the most recent NSCAA/Continental Tire national poll. The Monarchs have been one of the most consistent programs in the country with nine NCAA Tournament bids in the past 11 seasons. Head coach Alan Dawson has won nearly 70 percent of his games during a 25-year coaching career and leads a strong group in 2013 that includes Hermann Trophy candidate Gideon Asante and one of the nation's top strikers in Tim Hopkinson. ODU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament nine of the last 11 years.
