Men's Tennis Squeaks Past JMU, 4-3

NORFOLK, Va. - In their final home match of the regular season, the Old Dominion University men's tennis team snuck past James Madison 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

With the win, ODU improves to 13-5 on the year while JMU drops to 4-8.

It was a tight match throughout singles play and ODU sophomore clinched the team win with a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Maxi Branth at No. 6 to defeat the former CAA rival.

Sophomore Carlos Lopez Villa improved to 16-1 on the year with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ryan Pool at No. 1 while Wesley Barrett gave ODU another win at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Hugo Ramadier, Greg Vladimirsky and Robert Stirling won for JMU.

A key doubles point, ODU swept all three matches. Lopez Villa and Cetinel were 8-6 winners at No. 1 while Barrett and Tim Schweig cruised to an 8-2 victory while freshmen Zvonimir Podvinski and Jonas Kuwert were 8-6 winners at No. 3.
