Piric Leads Bosnia/Herzegovina to Victory Over Finland in Davis Cup
Helsinki, FINLAND – Old Dominion University men’s tennis head coach Aljosa Piric led the Bosnia/Herzegovina national team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Finland in the Group II Europe/Africa quarterfinal round of the Davis Cup competition on Friday afternoon. After being appointed as Team Captain in January, Bosnia/Herzegovina had already had a 3-1 triumph over Greece in the first round of group action. Bosnia/Herzegovina sits at 2-0 within group play and will now prepare to battle Lithuania in the semifinal round in September.
Against Finland, Piric’s Bosnians found themselves resting on a comfortable 2-0 lead on day one after Dami Dzumhur claimed victory over Finland’s Juho Paukku and Mirza Basic scored a major upset over Finland’s No. 45 Jarkko Nieminen. Finland stormed back with victories by the duo of Henri Kontinen and Nieminen in doubles play and again by Nieminen in singles play, but Bosnia’s Mirza Basic was able to turn away a feisty Juho Paukku in the final round to clinch victory for Piric’s Bosnians.
