Cancado, Igarashi Advance At All-American Qualifiers

TULSA, Okla. -- Old Dominion's Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) both advanced in their debut at the 2005 Ralph Lauren All-American Championships being held on the campus of the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2005-06 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May. Both Monarchs are attempting advance from the 128-player singles qualifying tournament, which feed into the 64-player main draw which takes place October 6th-9th.
Cancado, a junior and ranked 99th in the ITA Poll, won his first match in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1, against Gerhard Posch from Nebraska. He will face Mississippi State's Ivan Bjelica to further his attempt into the main draw.
Igarashi, a sophomore and 2005 CAA Rookie of the Year, played his way to the next round with a 7-6(4), 6-3 win over #101 Matija Zgaga of Baylor. He will face Wake Forest's #70 Andrew Hammar in his second round match-up.
Both Cancado and Igarashi will team up in the qualifying bracket for doubles tomorrow along with their respective singles matches.
