Monarchs Capture 4-0 Victory Over No. 21 Louisville

NEWPORTS NEWS, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's tennis squad picked up its biggest win in school history on Saturday afternoon as they downed No. 21 Louisville, 4-0, at the outdoor courts at Huntington Park. The Cardinals are the highest ranked team in history to be defeated by the Monarchs.
Additionally, the win upped Old Dominion's overall record to 20-7 overall, tying the record of most school wins.
The Monarchs swept through the doubles category. Harel Srugo and Alex Seleznev combined for an 8-4 win over Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson at No. 1 doubles. Henrique Cancado and Eidy Igarashi picked up another Monarch win by the same score at No. 2 doubles as they downed Louisville's JhonnyBerrido and Damar Johnson. Also, Rodrigo Souza and Matt Sands earned a hard fought 8-7 No. 3 dobules win over Slavko Radman and Stefan Naughton.
In singles, the Monarchs needed wins at No. 1, 2, and 4 singles to clinch the win. The rest of the matches were suspended, however, Old Dominion was leading in the remaining three matches.
The Monarchs used straight sets in all three singles wins. At No. 1 singles, No. 29 Harel Srugo, the CAA Singles Player of the Week, earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Slavko Radman. At No. 2 singles, Henrique Cancado defeated Damar Johnson 6-4, 6-3. Alex Seleznev, playing at No. 4 singles, rounded out play with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Jeremy Clark.
The Monarchs return to action on Sunday against Radford.
