Monarch Tennis Earns 7-0 Victory Over George Washington

NEWPORTS NEWS, Va. -- The Old Dominion men's team collected a 7-0 victory over George Washington on Friday afternoon at Center Court Racket Club up in Newport News.

Old Dominion collected five straight set victories at singles and won the sixth by default. Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) defeated Mustafa Genscoy at No. 1 singles for a 6-1, 6-2 win. Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) downed Sam Salyer at No. 2 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Both #90 Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) and newcomer Aleksandr Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic) won their matches by an identical score of 6-2, 6-0. Igarashi at No. 3 singles defeated Elliot Daniels and Seleznev downed Daniel Balke at No. 4 singles. Freshman Matthew Sands gave up only one game in his No. 6 single match. Sands handed Mark Lansman a 6-0, 6-1 defeat.

In doubles, the Monarchs picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 default, taking No. 3 doubles by default. Srugo and Seleznev teamed to defeated Salyer and Genscoy at No. 1, 8-1, while Nate Grover (Suffolk, Va.) and Sand defeated Balke and Daniels, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.
