Srugo Named VaSID Rookie Of The Year

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Old Dominion's Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) was named the men's tennis university division's Rookie of the Year by Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Association. Also joining Srugo with all-state honors were freshman Aleksandr Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic), sophomore Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil), and junior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil).

This is the first time that VaSID has sponsored an all-state team in tennis. The organization¹s university division includes all of the state's 14 NCAA Division I institutions.

Srugo, who also earned First Team All-State honors ended the year ranked 26th in the nation in singles, with a 22-7 record in singles and a 19-6 mark in doubles, earning first team all-state honors in both categories. He was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and Co-Player of the Year, and was also selected as the most outstanding performer at the conference tournament. A first team All-CAA pick in both singles and doubles, Srugo advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in singles and also participated in the NCAA Doubles Tournament.

Seleznev joined Srugo in being named First Team All-State in doubles. Together the Monarch duo was named First Team All-CAA and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Srugo and Seleznev ranked 43rd in the final poll released by the ITA concluding the year with a 20-5 doubles mark.

Igarashi and Cancado were both named Second Team All-State in singles. Igarashi played his way to a 24-12 singles, mark ranking as high as #77 during the season. Regionally he finished the season at #21. Igarashi also reached the Round of 32 in singles of the ITA Mideast Regional. Cancado earned a 26-9 overall mark and was named to the Second Team All-CAA. He reached the Round of 16 at the ITA Mideast Regional and had ranked as high as #99 early in the season.
