NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion’s University women’s tennis team (3-1) will square off with regional foe, Maryland, who will bring their perfect 3-0 record to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Friday, February 7. Start time is slated for 12:30 p.m.

ODU enters Saturday’s showdown with wins against Howard (4-1), Norfolk State (7-0) and at Penn (4-3).

Most recently, the Lady Tennis Monarchs found out they weren’t far off from No. 20 Georgia Tech, before eventually falling last weekend in Atlanta, Ga. Against the No. 20 Yellow Jackets, ODU’s Nikol Hristova took the first set the Yellow Jacket’s No. 1 Kendal Woodard, 6-3, before eventually losing gut-wrenching third set tiebreaker, 10-8. Ingrid Vojcinakova was in control of her match before it was called off due to the clinch-rule, as she won the first set 6-3 and was leading the second set 3-2. Also picking up a set against the nationally ranked Yellow Jackets was Nika Khmolovska, who won the first set easily, 6-1, and then was leading the second set 5-1, before the clinch rule came into effect.

Meet the 2014 Maryland Terps (3-0)
Last match, Maryland has defeated Penn, 4-2, as their No. 2 duo of Olivia Gaudreault and Alexandra Stanova won their third straight match. The Terps have also defeated George Washington (6-1) and Richmond (5-1) earlier this season.

Senior Welma Luus was Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week Last week for her two singles victories and doubles win.

Maryalnd is coached by Daria Panova, who served as an assistant at the University of Minnesota for five seasons, where she helped the Golden Gophers reach the 2012 NCAA Tournament for the first time in nine years. Panova was a two-time All-American (2003-04) for Oregon, a three-time All-Pac-10 Conference selection (2002-04), as wellas the 2003 Pac-10 Player of the Year. Panova completed her collegiate career as the winningest singles player in Oregon history with 94 career victories.
