Women's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season Defeating Temple, 4-3

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team closed out the 2005 regular season on a high-note on Saturday afternoon, handing the Temple Owls a 4-3 defeat. The win, which snapped a five-match losing streak, improved the Lady Monarchs mark to 10-14 overall heading in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships held from April 21-24th.
The afternoon started with the Lady Monarchs taking the doubles points despite having to default at No. 3 singles. The duo of Kerstin Endlich (Neustadt, Germany) and Fernanda Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) upended Temple's Ana Maslesea and Yuri Kurashim, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles, while ODU's Barbara Kerner (Herxheim, Germany) and Barbara Costa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) defeated the Owl's Laura Seiverling and Sharanya Pattabi in a close 9-8 game at No. 2 doubles.
Among the highlights in the three singles wins was Fernanda Luiz's perfect 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 3 singles to defeat Jennifer Goeta. Other winners on the afternoon were Barbara Costa picking up a three-set 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Yuri Kurahim and Barbara Kerner earning a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles against the Owl's Laura Seiverling.
The Lady Monarchs will gear up for the 2005 CAA Women's Tennis Championships to be held April 21-24th.
