RICHMOND, VA - Old Dominion University sophomore Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) and Virginia Commonwealth University senior Andrea Ondrisova (Bratislava, Slovakia) have been selected as the 2002 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Players of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches.

Others receiving top honors from the conference include William and Mary's Candice Fuchs (Sarasota, FL) as the CAA Rookie of the Year and William and Mary's Brian Kalbas as the CAA Coach of the Year.

Cahana is ranked 10th nationally in singles and 45th nationally in doubles in the latest Omni Collegiate Tennis Rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. As Old Dominion's number one seed, she posted a singles' record of 32-6 this season and reached the quarterfinals of the National Indoors. Cahana and teammate Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) formed the Monarchs' number one doubles squad. In 2001, Cahana was the CAA's Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Tournament Outstanding Performer.

Ondrisova is ranked 31st nationally in singles and 23rd nationally in doubles in the latest Omni Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Despite missing the fall season due to a wrist injury, Ondrisova posted a 15-0 record in spring dual meets, playing at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Eight of her victories have been over ranked players, including a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Cahana. In doubles, Ondrisova teamed with Martina Nedelkova (Piestany, Slovakia) to post a 12-3 mark.

Fuchs is ranked 84th nationally in singles in her rookie season at William and Mary, recording an impressive 14-5 mark at the No. 2 position. Four of her victories this season were over ranked opponents and all but one of her losses were to players ranked in the top 60. Fuchs and teammate Jessyca Arthur (Klamath Falls, OR) posted a 16-4 mark as the Tribe's top doubles team and are ranked 22nd nationally.

Kalbas guided William and Mary to a 15-7 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in CAA action. The Tribe, which is ranked 14th in the latest Collegiate Tennis Rankings, posted nine victories over teams ranked in the top 75 this season. It is the fourth time that Kalbas as been selected as CAA Coach of the Year.

The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the quarterfinals of the 2002 CAA Women's Tennis Championship, which resumes Friday at VCU's Thalhimer Tennis Center. The tournament is part of the 2002 CAA/Pioneer Spring Sports Festival.
