Brown Edges Women's Tennis, 4-3

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Old Dominion women's tennis team fell to #75 Brown Monday afternoon at Center Court Racket Club in Newport News as the Bears managed to edge out the Lady Monarchs 4-3. The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 6-6 overall, while Brown improved to 3-1.

The Bears took the doubles points by winning two matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The Lady Monarchs lone double victory came at No. 1 with junior Kerstin Endlich (Neustadt, Germany) and sophomore Fernanda Luiz (Nova Lima, Brazil) edging out Alex Arlak and Anita Ivancevic, 8-1. Old Dominion's Larissa Santos (Florianopolis, Brazil) and Barbara Costa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) fell to Michelle Paulter and Amanda Saiontz at No. 2, 8-4, while Barbara Kerner (Herxheim, Germany) and Linda Garder (Tallin, Estonia) dropped a 9-7 decision to Brown's Kelley Kirkpatrick and Ashley Pariser at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, both teams took three matches apiece, with the Lady Monarchs earning victories at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4. Two-time All-CAA honoree Kerstin Endlich gave up just one game en-route to a 6-0, 6-1, win over the Bears' Alex Arlak at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, Fernanda Luiz defeated Michelle Paulter, 6-1, 6-2, while at No. 4 singles, Barbara Costa earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory over Daisy Ames.

The Lady Monarchs take to the road in their next four matches beginning with a 4:00 p.m. match on Thursday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
