Old Dominion Doubles Team Reaches Finals At Eastern Region Championships

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Old Dominion team of Nataly Cahana (Quiriat Bialik, Israel) and Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) have reached the finals of the doubles main draw at the Omni Hotels Eastern Region Championships at the University of Pennsylvania. The duo will play the Temple today in the championship game.
The Lady Monarch duo defeated Dartmouth, 8-6, in the quarterfinals and took an 8-4 victory in the semifinals over Harvard. Temple reached the finals with a 9-7 win over Virginia Tech. Earlier in the day, Virginia Tech stopped Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) and Patricia Araujo's (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) run for the title with an 8-6 win in the quarterfinals.
In singles action, Chana fell in the quarterfinals to Delila Causevic of Maryland 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. Van Rooyen was halted in the round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Danira Penic of Temple, while teammate Radeljevic was also stopped in the round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Princeton's Kavitha Krishnamurthy.
The Omni Hotels Regional Championship, the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament, dates back to 1981 and has previously been known as the Rolex Regional Champions and the ITA Regional Championships. This event is the second of three national collegiate tennis championships held during the season. The first, the Riviera Women's All-American Championships took place a few weeks ago and the third are the year-end NCAA Championships. Finalists will go on to represent the region at the 2001 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships held Nov. 8-11 at the Brookhaven Country Club,
