Tribe Edges Women's Tennis 4-3

NORFOLK, VA - The 11th-ranked William and Mary women's tennis team needed to go down to the last set to defeat Colonial Athletic Association rival Old Dominion, 4-3, this evening in Norfolk. The win improves the Tribe's record to 14-5 overall and 3-0 in CAA action. Old Dominion drops to 8-7 (1-1 CAA) with the loss.
Old Dominion picked up victories at first, third, and fourth singles. Sixth ranked Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) defeated Jessyca Arthur, 6-0, 6-3 at first singles, while #34 Lara van Rooyen (Pretoria, South Africa) picked up a straight set, 6-4, 6-4 win at third singles over Angela Buergis. Senior Mily Kannarkat (VA Beach, VA) earned Old Dominion's third and final victory with a 6-4, 6-1 match against Lena Sherbakov.
The Tribe edged out the Lady Monarchs in doubles competition to take the win. The third doubles tandem of Patricia Araujo and Lara van Rooyen earned the lone Old Dominion win with a 8-1 victory. The 21st ranked team of Nataly Cahana and Ana Radeljevic fell in a tightly contest first doubles match-up, 8-6, while Mily Kannarkat and Julia Sotiriu were blanked by the Tribe, 8-0 at second doubles.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they host Marshall University at 1:00 p.m.
