Women's Tennis Fall To Virginia Commonwealth In CAA Match-Up

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Old Dominion fell to Virginia Commonwealth's 56th-ranked women's tennis team won the doubles point and took five of six singles matches to claim a 6-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory Sunday morning at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The loss dropped the Lady Monarchs to 6-4 on the season and 2-1 in CAA play. The Rams improved to 6-0 and 2-0 in CAA matches.
The Rams took two of three doubles matches. Virginia Commonwealth's Marianna Yuferova teamed with Olga Borisova to defeat Kerstin Endlich and Fernanda Luiz in #1 doubles 8-1. Larissa Santos and Barbara Costa at #2 doubles earned a victory over the Rams' Alexa Korotkevich and Camille Riper to get by 8-6. Viktoria Konstantinova and Vera Petrashevitch won at #3 doubles over Barbara Kerner and Linda Garder 8-2.
VCU won five of six singles matches. The Lady Monarchs captured their lone point at #5 singles as Barbara Kerner overcame a first set loss to defeat Alexa Korotkevich in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
In other singles action, Yuferova defeated Endlich at #1 singles 6-3, 6-1. Borisova dominated Santos at #2 singles 6-0, 6-1. Konstantinova overwhelmed Luiz at #3 singles 6-0, 6-1. Petrashevitch edged Costa at #4 singles 6-1, 5-7, 7-6. Ripert defeated Garder at #6 singles 6-0, 6-1.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Wednesday afternoon at Duke.
