Women's Tennis Falls To Va. Commonwealth In CAA Semifinals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Top-seeded William & Mary defeated #4 UNC Wilmington 4-0 and #2 Virginia Commonwealth downed #3 Old Dominion 4-0 in semifinal action at the 2005 CAA Women's Tennis Championship at Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va.

The Tribe, who are ranked #20 nationally, and the Rams, who are ranked #54 nationally, will meet in Sunday's 10 a.m. championship match for the fourth year in a row.

VCU needed only an 8-2 triumph from their number one team of Marianna Yuferova/Olga Borisova to earn the doubles point after ODU defaulted at number three doubles. In singles, #1 Yuferova blanked the Lady Monarchs' Kerstin Endlich 6-0, 6-0 and second-seeded Olga Borisova beat Barbara Costa 6-4, 6-1. ODU defaulted at number six singles to give the Rams their fourth point.

W&M captured the doubles point after a pair of 8-1 victories from their #1 team of Megan Moulton-Levy/Candice Fuchs and the #2 duo of Kate Boomershine/Megan Muth. The Tribe clinched the match by getting straight set victories from their top three singles players. Moulton-Levy defeated UNCW's Lindsey Hess 6-1, 6-0 at number one, Fuchs beat Sallie Kiser 6-0, 6-2 at number two and Lena Sherbakov got past Molly Molony 6-3, 6-1 at number three.
