Women's Tennis Falls To Winthrop

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's tennis fell 2-5 to Winthrop on Sunday afternoon with the Lady Monarchs picking up points at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles along with a victory at No. 2 doubles.

Old Dominion's singles victorys came from senior Kerstin Endlich (Neustadt, Germany) at No. 1 singles and freshman Barbara Costa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) at No. 3 singles. Endlich edged out the Eagles' Jenny Andrade, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(7), while Costa earned a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 win over Danielle Moita.

Although Winthrop took home the doulbes points, the Lady Monarchs did manage at No. 2 doubles from Barbara Costa and sophomore Barbara Kerner (Herxheim, Germany). The Lady Monarch duo downed Ana Paula Novaes and Paula Takahashi, 8-4.

Both the Old Dominion men's and women's team will next play in the Hampton Roads College Tennis Elite 8 team tournament held at Owl Creek Tennis Center March 24-26. The draw can be found on the right side of the page at www.hamptonroadstennis.com .
