ODU Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak With 6-1 Decision Over GWU

Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match to open the spring season with a 6-1 victory over visiting George Washington University Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center.

The Lady Monarchs (5-0) captured the doubles point with a sweep of all three doubles matches. Charleen Haarhoff and Nadine Fahoum defeated Kendall Swenson and Nadia Demidenko 8-2 at No. 1, while Barbara Costa and Joanna Dobrowolska won at No. 2 and Jana Kubicikova and Marij Citic at No. 3.

In singles play, ODU was victorious in five of the six matches with all five wins coming in straight sets. Haarhoff, Fahoum and Dobrowolska remained undefeated in singles play with their wins, as did Kubicikova and Citic at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions respectively. George Washington's only victory on the day came at the No. 2 singles position where Nadia Demidenko defeated ODU's Barbara Costa 6-1, 6-3.
