No. 67 Women's Tennis Too Much for James Madison 5-2

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 67 Old Dominion University women’s tennis team got back to their winning ways, as they toppled the Dukes from James Madison by a score of 5-2 on Monday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs advance their overall record to 7-3, while JMU falls to 5-2 on the year.

The Lady Monarchs got Monday’s match going by earning the double’s point, as Nikol Hristova and Melissa Esnal Olguin took down James Madison’s Taylor Pinchoff and Alex Huie 8-7 (1-0) in a tiebreaker. Clinching the double’s point for Old Dominion were the freshmen tandem of Ingrid Vojcinakova and Marijana Novakovic defeated Cara Wirth and Sarah Khan.

In singles, four of ODU’s six player players claimed victory. Playing at No. 1 for Old Dominion, Nikol Hristova was too much for Taylor Pinchoff (6-0, 6-1). At No. 2 singles, Ingrid Vojcinakova handled Alex Huie in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). At No. 3 singles, Marijana Novakovic came from behind and took down Emily Bradhshaw in a three-set thriller (2-6, 7-5, 6-3). Melisa Esnal Olguin picked up a straight sets victory at No. 5 singles, as she beat JMU’s Ruxandra Andiescu (6-3, 6-4).

The Old Dominion University women’s tennis team will be right back in action again on Wednesday against the No. 1 ranked Blue Devils of Duke University at 5:00 p.m.

-Head Coach is Jamie Ashworth who has been at the helm since 1997. Ashworth led Duke to 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and won the National Championship in 2009. Ashworth possess a 383-93 (.805) overall record and has reached the NCAA semi finals eight times.
