Brad Gero and Tyler Urps Sign With Baseball Monarchs

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University head baseball coach Chris Finwood announced today the signing of pitcher Brad Gero (Lake Worth, FL.) from Daytona State Community College and infielder Tyler Urps (Wilton, CA.) from Yavapai Junior College to national letters of intent for the 2012-13 season.

"BRAD IS A COACHES SON WHO IS A GREAT COMPETITOR AND WAS THE PALM BEACH COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL PITCHER OF THE YEARAS A SENIOR. BRAD THREW IN MULTIPLE ROLES FOR DAYTONA STATE COLLEGE THIS YEAR AND HAD GREAT SUCCESS GOING 7-0. BRAD THROWS FROM MULTIPLE ARM ANGLES AND WILL BE A COMPETETIVE MOMENT GUY FOR US NEXT YEAR. BRAD DOES ALL THE LITTLE THINGS WELL AND IS A STRIKE THROWER WHO WILL GET US A LOT OF GROUND BALLS. WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO ADD BRAD TO OUR RECRUITING CLASS."- Chris Finwood on Gero.

Brad Gero played at Park Vista community high school where he was a First Ream FACA District 17 All-County selection as junior and senior. As a senior he was named FACA High School Player of the Year in Palm Beach County. During his senior season, Gero only issued nine walks the entire season and was selected to play in the FACA High School All-Star game.

This season, Gero made 27 appearances with a 7-0 record and a 3.39 ERA in 61.1 innings of work for Daytona State Community College where he was selected first team All-Mid Florida Conference.

Tyler Urps was an All-League selection as a senior shortstop for Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, CA. A teammate of earlier ODU signee Jordan Negrini for 13th ranked Yavapai Junior College in Arizona, Urps hit .283 with two homers, 23 RBI, 37 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Urps helped lead the Roughriders to a 40-20 record and their 13th ACCAC title.

TYLER IS A SCRAPPY BALLPLAYER AND HANDLES THE BAT WELL. HE IS ANOTHER COACHES SON AND REALLY KNOWS THE GAME. TYLER WILL REALLY HELP US SOLIDIFY OUR MIDDLE INFIELD FOR NEXT YEAR." Finwood on Urps.

Gero and Urps will join the 12 earlier signees from the fall and spring. They include: Jordan Negrini-SS from Yavapai Junior College in Arizona, RHP Ryan Yarbrough -LHP from Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL., Tommy Alexander- RHP from Wyoming Valley West HS in PA; Brian Beard- OF from Great Bridge HS;Conner Crookham- IF from Hatboro-Horsham HS in PA; PJ Higgins- IF from The Gunnery Prep School in CT.; Jake Josephs- LHP from South County HS; Pat Kane- IF from Gloucester Catholic HS in NJ; Alex Kowalczyk- C from Downingtown East HS in Downingtown, PA.; Connor Myers- OF from Middletown HS in Middletown, MD.; Patrick Phillips- RHP from The Steward School in Richmond and Andy Roberts- LHP from Iowa Western CC - From Prescott, AZ.
