Ben Verlander Selected To NY-Penn League All-Star Game

NORWICH, CT—Former ODU Baseball All-American outfielder Ben Verlander has been selected to play in the New York-Penn League 2013 All-Star game scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Dodd Stadium, home of the Connecticut Tigers. There are 18 position players and ten pitchers who will represent both the American and National League.

Through 45 games, Verlander is hitting .250 with 20 runs scored, 41 hits, eight doubles, two triples and three homers with 21 RBI. The outfielder is the Connecticut Tigers team co-leader in runs scored, second in total hits, triples and home runs. Verlander belted his third homer of the season on July 26th against Lowell.

Verlander earned third team All-American honors this season, leading ODU with a .367 batting average with 11 homers, four triples and 37 RBI. He tied an ODU single game record when he belted three home runs against Northeastern on March 9.

The selected players will also be part of the festivities at the All-Star Gala at Mohegan Sun on Monday, August 12 at 6:30pm, and the All-Star Luncheon at Holiday Inn Norwich on Tuesday, August 13 at noon.
