Friske & Evans Combine To Shut Down Spiders 6-1
RICHMOND, Va. -- Senior lefthander Parker Friske (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and sophomore righthander Kevin Evans (Shamong, N.J./Shawnee) allowed just three hits as the Old Dominion University Monarchs claimed a 6-1 Colonial Athletic Association win over the University of Richmond Spiders this afternoon at Pitt Field. Old Dominion is now 8-14 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. Richmond is 9-11 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Friske (2-3) was the starter and winner for the Monarchs, going 5.0 innings with two hits, one run, five walks and two strikeouts. He walked the first three batters in the sixth and was relieved by Evans, who got a sacrifice fly and a double play to end the Richmond threat. He allowed just one single, walked two and struck out six in his four innings of work. Evans earned his first save of the season.
After four scoreless innings, Old Dominion scored twice in the fifth. With two outs, senior second baseman Ross Robertson (Chesapeake, Va./Greenbriar Christian) and freshman outfielder Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) each singled and scored on a double by freshman shortstop Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, Md./Mount St. Joseph's).
Old Dominion added four runs in the sixth. Robertson had a sacrifice fly and Moye, Strick and sophomore catcher John Oehler (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) each had RBI singles to give the Monarchs a 6-0 lead.
Richmond's lone run came in on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher John Nathans (Warwick, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) in the sixth. Strick had three hits and three RBI for Old Dominion. Senior third baseman
