NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Baseball Monarchs (2-1) host the Pirates of East Carolina (3-0) Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

One of the traditional powers of Conference USA, ECU comes into the contest having already hit five homers and scored 24 runs. Corey Thompson is hitting .500 and Tim Younger .667, while Jay Cannon, Phillip Clark and Jack Reinheimer each have four runs knocked in. ECU is scheduled to throw righthander Joseph Hughes.

The Monarchs under first year head coach Chris Finwood took two of three from the Temple Owls last weekend.

Monarch secondbaseman Brandon Shelton is hitting .333 with three RBI, while catcher Josh Tutwiler is also hitting .333.

The Monarch pitching staff continues to be strong with a 3.10 ERA along with 27 strikeouts in 29 innings of work. Brett Harris and Ben Tomchick didn't allow a run in their outings.
