Charlotte Baseball Defeats Old Dominion, 8-1, To Sweep The Series

The Charlotte 49ers completed a two-game series sweep of Old Dominion with an 8-1 win in the series finale on Wednesday. The Monarchs fall to 5-10 on the year as they suffered their fifth straight loss.
Charlotte pitcher Kory Radford collected his first career win in his first career start after scattering five hits and only allowing one run with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Alex Derhak paced the 49ers with two hits including a home run and five RBI. Thomas Bowker, Brian Scafe, Jamie Rusco and Brad Lamm also had two hits for the 49ers. Rusco's two hits were a double and a triple.
The 49ers got on the scoreboard first when Rusco, who leadoff the inning with a double to left field, scored on Derhak's infield groundout in the second inning.
Old Dominion tied the score, 1-1, when Moore scored in the third inning.
The 49ers exploded for four runs on three hits to take the lead for good at 5-1 in the fourth inning. The big hit of the inning was Bowker's two-run single to left field.
The Monarchs continue their road swing as they travel to Raleigh, NC to take part in the N.C. State Tournament. They open with Princeton on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
