ODU Hosts SoCon Leader Elon - Wright Co-CAA Player Of The Week

NORFOLK, VA-- ODU (24-20) hosts Elon (33-18) Tuesday night and Monarch junior shortstop Josh Wright was named CAA Co-Player of the Week. Game time Tuesday is 6 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
Josh Wright, a native of Bridgewater, Va.batted .643 (9-14) with a homer, four RBI and four runs scored as Old Dominion recorded a three-game sweep at first-place Delaware to take over the top spot in the league. Hit a two-run homer in the 9th to give ODU a 7-5 victory on Friday and then went 4-for-4 and scored three runs on Sunday to complete the sweep.
Wright leads ODU with a .377 batting average with 11 homers and 37 RBI. He has a slugging percentage of .735. In 23 CAA games in which he has played, Wright is hitting .471 with seven homers and a .851 slugging percentage.
He shares this week's honor with Austin Harclerode, Towson - Batted .500 (10-20) with two homers, seven RBI and eight runs scored in Towson's 5-0 week that included a pair of wins over ACC foe Maryland and a three-game sweep of VCU. Hit .539 against VCU, including a walk-off homer in Saturday's 3-2 victory.
The Phoenix of Elon are 33-18 overall and lead the Southern Conference with a 21-6 record. Sebastian Gomez leads Elon with a .329 batting average, while Niko Fraser has stolen 18 of 29 bases. Neal Pritchard, Grant McCoury and Garrett Koster have each belted six home runs this season. On the mound the Phoenix are led by John Brebbia with a 7-0 record and a 1.88 earned run average. Ken Ferrer (5-3), David Whitehead (5-1) and Jared Kernodle (6-1) head the Elon pitching list in victories.
ODU and Elon have met twice at Elon this year with the Phoenix winning both games.
