Hummel Named to Baseball America's Second Team Pre-Season All-American Squad

DURHAM, NC (January 6, 2000) -- Old Dominion University junior shortstop Tim Hummel (Montgomery, NY.) has been selected to the second team BASEBALL AMERICA'S pre-season All-American squad. The 6-2, 195-pounder has now been selected to all three All-American teams.

In November, Hummel was named third team pre-season All-American by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers and COLLEGIATE BASEBALL paper. ESPN's Peter Gammons mentioned Hummel on his BASEBALL TONIGHT SHOW in August as a probable first round pick for the June 2000 draft.

In the 1999 season, Hummel earned first team All-CAA and All-Region honors as he hit .368 with five homers, 62 runs batted in, and 21 stolen bases. This past summer, Hummel led the prestitious Cape Cod Summer League in walks (37), ranked third in on base percentage (.440), ssecond in runs scored (38) and hit .275 with eight homers and 28 runs batted in. The Cape Cod League uses wooden bats. The Monarchs were 38-17 and reached the finals of the CAA Tournament for the fifth time in six years.
