Monarchs and Norfolk Tides Tie, 0-0

NORFOLK, VA. - The Norfolk Tides (NY Mets AAA affiliate) and the Old Dominion University Monarchs battled to a 0-0 tie in the annual Metrocall Scholarship game at Harbor Park, in front of a crowd of 3,039. Demarque Hairston (Martinsville, VA.), Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.)and Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) each reached base twice on the evening.
Hairston reached base with a single in the first inning and a walk in the sixth. d Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) came up with singles in the second and seventh, and freshman Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.) reached twice with a walk and was hit by a pitch. He also stole a base. ODU had runners on first and third in the sixth with two outs, but were unable to score.
Tides pitchers threw for both teams, holding the Monarchs to three hits and the Tides hitless. The proceeds from the game benefit the Baseball ScholarshipFund of the Old Dominion University Intercollegiate Foundation.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday with a three-game CAA series against Virginia Commonwealth University at 7 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
