Verlander ('04) Wins Major League Leading 14th Game

ST. PETERSBURG, FL-- ODU's all-time strikeout leader and All-CAA pitcher Justin Verlander ('04) won his major league leading 14th game Tuesday night with a 10-4 victory at Tampa Bay for the AL Cenral leading Detroit Tigers.

Verlander gave up three runs, eight hits, two walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work.

He is 7-0 with a 2.04 ERA in his last nine games. Overall, Verlander is 14-4 with a 2.79 earned run average. His last loss was a 4-3 decision against the Chicago White Sox on June 7.

"It was one of those days where the stuff wasn't there and I had to battle out there to keep our guys in it," said Verlander who is the all time strikeout leader in ODU, CAA and Virginia Division I history with 427 in 335 innings."Our offense put up a pretty bold number today, and that was great."
