Monarchs Defeat Drexel, 11-7

NORFOLK, VA. - Old Dominion behind the hitting of Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.), Ryan Harvey (Riverside,CA) and Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) defeated the Dragons of Drexel University, 11-7 in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday evening. ODU improves to 20-22 overall and 4-9 in the CAA while Drexel is at 16-29 overall and 2-12 in the CAA.
Musolf led the Monarchs with three runs batted in. He knocked in Kevin Snapp (Yorba Linda, CA.) on a groundout in the second and singled home Harvey and Snapp in the three-run seventh inning. Allen Strick knocked in two runs in the ODU four-run first inning, while Ryan Harvey belted his team leading fifth home run in the second inning with Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) aboard.
Ben Sniecinski led the Dragons with three hits including a solo homer in the sixth inning after Mike Francis slammed a three-run shot with Luke Sundheim and Harry Ley aboard. That cut the ODU lead to one, 8-7. Josh Yocum also knocked in two runs with a single scoring Sniecinski and Bruce Boehm in the third inning.
Ryan Williams (Va.Beach, Va. ) picked up the win and Jonathan Tinkham (Chesapeake, VA.) earned his fourth save of the year. Williams came in in the ninth after back-to- back singles by Sniecinski and Boehm, but retired the next three Dragon batters.
The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
