Monarchs Host Nationally Ranked VMI Wednesday Night At 6 p.m.

NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs (16-10) host 30th ranked VMI (16-4) Wednesday night at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. Game time is 6 p.m.ODU's sophomore pitcher/firstbaseman Anthony Shawler was named CAA Player of the Week. This is his third league honor this year. He has twice been named CAA Pitcher of the Week.

Shawler batted .615 (8-13) with three doubles, two homers, six runs scored and six RBI in ODU's four games last week. In two games against CAA rival Hofstra, the sophomore was 7-for-8 with a pair of doubles, a pair of homers, five runs scored and six RBI. He also started game two of the series with the Pride and allowed three runs over seven innings while fanning nine to improve to 5-0 this season.

Senior Mike Zahm ranks fourth in the CAA in hitting wth a .431 batting average, while Shawler ranks third in the CAA with a 2.91 ERA. Dan Hudson is fifth in the CAA with a 3.27 ERA.

ODU is scheduled to start Dexter Carter Wednesday night against the Keydets who beat Florida two out of three games and split with Auburn earlier this year.
