W&M Defeats ODU, 3-1

WILLIAMSBURG, VA-- William and Mary (15-12/2-5 )defeated Old Dominion, 3-1 Friday night despite a career high ten strikeout performance by junior Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.).
Tribe pitchers Forrest Cory and Joe Kantakevich combined for a two-hitter. Cory walked four and fanned five in eight innings. Arrowood pitched eight innings, allowing eight hits, four walks and ten strikeouts.
ODU scored first as Chris Keenan came home on Bryan Cipolla's sacrifice fly. William and Mary came back with two runs in the bottom of the first as Jon Rhymes scored when Mike DeCarlo hit into a double-play. Brent McWhorter then scored on a wild pitch.
McWhorter scored again in the third inning on an ODU outfield error on Chris Rahl's sacrifice fly.
ODU threatened in the seventh with two outs when C.J. Jacinto reached on an error and Jesse Schoendienst walked, but were left stranded. Evan Chipman had both of ODU's hits, a single in the first and a single in the eighth inning.
The two teams will play game two of the three-game CAA series Saturday at 4 p.m. in Plumeri Park.
