Saturday's non-conference baseball contest between Rutgers and Old Dominion was postponed due to inclement weather in the top of the sixth inning with the Monarchs holding a 5-2 lead. The game will be continued tomorrow at noon before the regularly scheduled 1:00 p.m. contest. That game will begin after the first one is finished.
Senior Brandon Le Noir (Oscala, FL) broke a 2-2 tie with a pinch hit three run bomb to straight away center to give ODU the advantage. That was his second home run on the young season to go with seven runs batted in.
Freshman Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC) made his second career start for the Monarchs, pitching all five innings. He gave up four hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks. If ODU can remain ahead he will be credited with his first career win.
Old Dominion got on the board in the first inning when Demarque Hairston (Martinsville, VA) scored on a wild pitch by Rutger's starter Shaun Parker. The visitors tied it at one in the top of the second before the teams exchanged single runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth.
Parker was relieved after four innings after giving up two earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts and three walks.
