Donnie Smith Named CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week

NORFOLK, VA-Old Dominion University junior righthander Donnie Smith (Portsmouth, VA.) was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Week. Smith picked up a win and a save a well as 16 strikeouts in 12 innings of work last week.
Smith shares the honor with UNC Wilmington's Zach Kimball. Smith picked up his second save of the year with a four inning, eight strikeout performance in a 4-2 victory over VMI. He then won his third game of the year Sunday with another eight strikeout performance in ODU's 7-3 CAA win over Towson. Smith is 3-0 with a 2.06 earned run average. He has 51 strikeouts in 39.1 innings, and ranks fourth in the CAA in ERA and third behind teammate Justin Verlander and VCU's Justin Orenduff in strikeouts.
ODU travels to 22nd ranked North Carolina State Tuesday night, then to Fairfax, VA. for a three-game series with George Mason this weekend.
