Eure Slam Helps Monarchs Defeat GMU, 16-8
FAIRFAX, Va. -- Junior thirdbaseman Jeff Eure (Pillow, Pa.) knocked in five runs, including a grand slam in the first to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion University to a 16-8 CAA victory over George Mason Friday afternoon. ODU is now 10-15 overall and 3-1 in the CAA. The Patriots are 8-12 and 0-1 in the CAA.
The Monarchs erupted for seven runs in the first inning as Eure hit his third homerun in the last two games with John Oehler (Audubon, NJ.), Mark Michael (Gibbstown, NJ.) and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) aboard. Eure also knocked in a run in the sixth inning. He had three hits in four atbats. He hit two homers in the win over Clemson on Wednesday night.
Freshman Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa.)knocked in four runs on the day. He hit a two-run homer in the first and singled in two runs in the third. Moye had three hits on the day. Freshman Mark Michael hit a solo homer in the seventh.
Parker Friske (Va.Beach, Va.) got the complete game win to even his record to 3-3.
The game didn't start until 3:30, because the Old Dominion bus broke down outside of Richmond.
The two teams play game two on Saturday at 2 p.m.
