NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University head baseball coach Jerry Meyers announced today the signing of two local standouts, Tyler Mann, outfielder from Princess Anne High School and firstbase/outfielder Chris Baker from Deep Creek High school in the early signing period for 2007-08.
"I am very pleased with our new additions in the early signing period, and we feel it is a great start to our 2007 recruiting campaign," said Meyers. "In what will be one of our smaller incoming classes next fall, we have addressed some of our immediate needs with the type of student-athletes that are the right fit for Old Dominion Baseball and the strong tradition of our program."
Tyler Mann, a 6-2, 205 pounder hit .410 last year and was a first team All-Beach District and All-Region selection. He was also selected second team All-Tidewater and All-State. Mann participated in the 2006 Perfect Game National Showcase in Fayetteville, Ark; the 2006 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars in Joplin, MO., and the 2006 East Coast Pro Showcase in Wilmington, NC.
Chris Baker is a 6-2, 200 pounder who hit .517 with an on base percentage of .581. He knocked in 22 runs with two homers. Baker earned first team All-District and All-region honors, and was a second team All-Tidewater selection. He was also an honorable mention All-State selection.
"Along with being very talented on the field, they possess outstanding character and the make-up that will allow them to be successful, adds Meyers. "Assistant coaches Ryan Morris and Nate Goulet have again done an outstanding job in their recruiting efforts as we look to add to this class in the spring signing period."
