Monarchs Outslug Mason For 10-9 Win

FAIRFAX, VA.--Old Dominion (15-20/4-4)scored seven runs in the final four innings and hit five homeruns on the day to defeat George Mason (17-11/3-5) , 10-9 in a CAA contest Saturday afternoon.
Mark Hill put Mason on the scoreboard first when he doubled home Jeremy Haas in the opening inning. In the third Brig Tison tripled home Haas, then Ryan Soars plated Tison with his nation's leading ninth sacrifice fly.
ODU rallied to tie the game in the fourth. Senior third baseman Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.)hit a one-out solo homer, his fifth of the season, then second baseman Josh Wright (Bridgewater, VA.) hit a two-run homer with rightfielder Chris Baker (Chesapeake, VA.) aboard .
George Mason retook the lead, 6-3 in the fourth on RBI hits from Brett Hendricks, Chris Cook and groundout RBI by Soares.
In the top of the seventh, the Monarchs took the lead for good as Jake McAloose doubled home Corsner and Stoneback and Buss doubled home Baker. In the bottom of the eight the Patriots added a run on a Cook Sacrifice fly.
Mason cut the lead to one when Hill hit a two-run homer with Soares aboard in the ninth. Senior Austin Wright (Virginia Beach, VA.) picked up his first save as he got the final two outs in the ninth inning.
Brandon Smith (Chesapeake, Va.)picked up his third win of the season. Smith pitched 5.1 innings of relief for ODU. The Patriots were led by Mark Hill with four hits and three RBI on the day. The third and final game of the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
