FAIRFAX, VA--George Mason (12-13/7-3) reliever Ryan Brecko pitched six-plus innings of shutout relief as the Patriots defeated Old Dominion (14-12/6-5), 10-5 Saturday afternoon.

All but two of the 15 runs scored by both teams came in the first three innings. ODU took a 1-0 lead when Bryan Cipolla singled home Jimmy Miles.

Mason took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first but, ODU came back with three in the second inning to tie the game at four. Jimmy Miles' bases loaded single plated Jake McAloose and Chris Buss, then Max Most came home on a Patriot throwing error.

ODU's fifth and final run came in the third when Jake McAloose singled home Anthony Shawler who led the inning off with a double.

Brecko came on in relief in the third and got the final two outs with ODU runners on first and second. He allowed only three hits with one walk the rest of the way for George Mason and improved his record to 3-0.

Brent Weiss led the Patriots with three hits and three runs batted in, while Chris Henderson and Justin Bour each knocked in a pair of runs.

Anthony Shawler, Bryan Cipolla and Jake McAloose each had two hits for ODU. Jimmy Miles stole his CAA leading 20th base in the first inning. Shawler (3-2) took the loss as he fanned seven with eight hits in seven innings of work

The two teams play the third and final game of the league series Sunday at 1:00 at the Raymond Spuhler field.
