Dan Hudson Earns Freshmen All-American Honors

NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University freshman righthander Dan Hudson (Virginia Beach, Va.) has been selected to the 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The 6-3 , 200-pounder who helped lead Princess Anne High School to the Virginia AAA State title a year ago was 7-3 this year with a 3.28 earned run average. He fanned 79 batters in 93.1 innings. He made 14 appearances with 12 starts and one complete game.

Hudson tossed a complete game five-hit shutout at Hofstra and earned CAA All-Rookie team honors. He fanned nine against both VCU and Rutgers. Hudson ranked sixth in the CAA ERA.

Louisville Slugger's Freshmen All-American Baseball Team TUCSON, Ariz. -- The 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team features a who's who of tremendous baseball talent. The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Freshman Pitcher of The Year Alex Wilson of Winthrop and Freshman Player of The Year 3B Pedro Alvarez of Vanderbilt.

Here is a rundown on the 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as chosen by Collegiate Baseball. Starting Pitchers

RHP Alex Wilson, Winthrop -- Collegiate Baseball's national Freshman Pitcher of The Year, Wilson was also named Freshman of The Year in the Big South Conference and was a first team Big South pick. He posted a 13-3 record with a 3.78 ERA as he struck out 143 batters with 50 walks in 138 innings. LHP Christian Friedrich, Eastern Kentucky -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Ohio Valley Conference, he posted a 10-2 record with a 1.98 ERA and threw 3 complete games. In 82 innings, he struck out 118 batters and walked only 24. RHP Aaron Shafer, Wichita St. -- The Pitcher of The Year and Freshman of The Year in the Missouri Valley Conference, Shafer recorded a 10-3 record, 2.73 ERA and fanned 74 batters with 19 walks this season in 92 1/3 innings. RHP Cody Satterwhite, Mississippi -- Named to the All-Freshmen Southeastern Conference team, Satterwhite posted an 8-2 record and fanned 30 batters. LHP Matt Wickswat, Santa Clara -- A second team West Coast Conference pick, he posted an 8-2 record with a 3.24 ERA. He struck out 57 batters with 22 walks. LHP Nathan Moreau, Georgia -- Moreau was 6-1 with a 4.28 ERA and fanned 33 batters with 12 walks. RHP Dan Hudson, Old Dominion -- Named to the All-Rookie Colonial Conference team, Hudson posted a 7-3 record with a 3.28 ERA and 79 strikeouts. RHP Erich Lehmann, Stephen F. Austin -- Lehmann posted an 8-3 record, 3.40 ERA and struck out 63 batters with 14 walks. In his final three starts of the season, he threw three complete games. LHP Brian Matusz, San Diego -- Named to the All-Freshmen team in the West Coast Conference, Matusz fanned 93 batters and walked 39 as he posted a 4-3 record and 4.25 ERA in 89 innings. RHP Ethan Hollingsworth, Western Michigan -- Named Freshman of the Year in the Mid-American Conference, Hollingsworth was 9-3 this season with a 3.86 ERA. RHP Miles Morgan, Texas Tech. -- Named Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big 12 Conference, Morgan posted a 6-5 record, 3.39 ERA and fanned 96 batters with 27 walks. He also threw three complete games. RHP Scott Gorgen, U.C. Irvine -- Named Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big West Conference and a second team Big West pick, he posted a 7-4 record and 2.52 ERA. RHP Steven Hensley, Elon -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Southern Conference, he posted a 6-3 record with 89 strikeouts. He fanned 13 batters in one game this season. RHP Jordan Muir, Brigham Young -- Muir posted a 6-0 record with a 2.88 ERA as he fanned 39 batters. RHP Steve Blevins, Cincinnati -- A second team Big East Conference pick, Blevins was 8-3 on the mound with a 4.95 ERA. He struck out 55 batters and pitched 2 complete games. LHP Travis Smink, Virginia Military Institute -- Smink posted a 7-2 record, 4.75 ERA and struck out 30 batters with 2 saves. RHP Matt Lea, Mississippi St. -- Lea put together a 5-1 record with a 2.01 ERA as he fanned 26 batters.

Relief Pitchers Kyle Weiland, Notre Dame -- Weiland posted 16 saves for the Fighting Irish this season with a glistening 2.55 ERA. He was a second team Big East selection as he struck out 41 batters and walked 19 in 42 1/3 innings. Ben Hunter, Pepperdine -- An All-Freshmen West Conference selection, Hunter posted a 5-2 record, 7 saves and 2.40 ERA with 41 strikeouts and 14 walks. Matt Daly, Hawaii -- Daly posted a 6-0 record with 1 save and a 1.88 ERA with 40 strikeouts and 18 walks. Austin Wood, Texas -- Wood appeared in 35 games for the Longhorns this season and posted a 3.15 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 19 walks. J.D. Melton, Wofford -- Melton posted 7 saves this season and a 6-3 record as he fanned 28 batters. Luke Greinke, Auburn -- Greinke, an All-Freshman Southeastern Conference pick, appeared in 17 games and posted 6 saves with a 3.76 ERA.

Catchers Billy Aguiar, High Point -- Aguiar, a second team Big South Conference selection, hit .290 with 3 homers, 5 doubles and 29 RBI. He only had four errors all season long. Preston Paramore, Arizona St. -- A first team Pac-10 pick, Paramore was superb defensively as he hit .326 with 7 doubles, 3 homers and knocked in 30 runs. Ryan Babineau, UCLA -- A superb defensive receiver, Babineau was selected to the Pac-10 first team. On offense, he hit .258 with 6 homers, 8 doubles and knocked in 25 runs. Tim Federowicz, North Carolina -- The talented freshman hit .314 with 7 homers, 13 doubles and knocked in 45 runs.

First Basemen Allan Dykstra, Wake Forest -- He was named Freshman of The Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference and a second team All-ACC pick as well. Dykstra hit .331 with 14 homers, 16 doubles and 55 RBI. James Ewing, Arkansas -- Ewing hit .375 for the Razorbacks with 9 doubles, 18 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Jared Bolden, Va. Commonwealth -- An All-Rookie selection in the Colonial Conference, he hit .383 with 5 homers, 11 doubles, 6 triples and 32 RBI. He also swiped 8 bases. Justin Smoak, South Carolina -- Smoak was named to the All-Freshmen team in the Southeastern Conference. He hit 12 homers, 11 doubles and knocked in 37 runs. Michael Ewing, Southern Mississippi -- Named to the All-Freshman team in Conference USA, Ewing hit .326 with 15 doubles, 8 homers and collected 41 RBIs. Calvin Anderson, Southern -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Southwestern Conference, Anderson hit .330 with 4 homers, 8 doubles and knocked in 31 runs. Ryan Flaherty, Vanderbilt -- Flaherty hit .340 with 13 doubles and 32 RBI this season for the Commodores.

Second Basemen Erik Wetzel, Fresno St. -- Wetzel was a first team Western Athletic Conference selection. He hit .322 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 20 RBI and swiped 8 bases. Jemile Weeks, Miami (Fla.) -- A second team Atlantic Coast Conference pick, he hit .320 with 10 doubles, 7 triples, 3 homers, 22 RBI and swiped 8 bases. Bradley Suttle, Texas -- Suttle hit .312 with 12 doubles, 3 homers and knocked in 32 RBI for the Longhorns in 2006. Bert Smith, Jacksonville St. -- A second team Ohio Valley Conference pick, Smith swiped 18 bases as he hit .308 with 8 doubles and 32 RBI. 2B/3B Scott Elmendorf, Southern Illinois -- Elmendorf hit .353 with 9 doubles, 23 RBI and swiped 7 bases.

Shortstops Beamer Weems, Baylor -- Weems was sensational on defense as he only committed 8 errors all season and none since the second game of the year. On offense, he hit .296 with 7 homers, 13 doubles, 5 triples and 43 RBI. Brandon Douglas, Northern Iowa -- A first team Missouri Valley Conference pick, he hit .373 with 4 homers, 10 doubles and 26 RBIs. Brian Dozier, Southern Mississippi -- An All-Freshman Conference USA selection, he hit .368 with 3 homers, 8 doubles, 4 triples and 39 RBI. He also swiped 11 bases. Danny Espinosa, Long Beach St. -- Named Freshman Player of The Year in the Big West Conference, he hit .281 with 16 doubles and 23 RBI. Tony Delmonico, Tennessee -- A member of the Southeastern Conference All-Freshmen team, Delmonico hit .345 with 2 homers, 10 doubles, 2 triples and 31 RBI. He also was superb on defense. Michael Marseco, Samford -- A first team Ohio Valley Conference pick, he hit .286 with 11 doubles, 4 triples and 24 RBI. Addison Maruszak, South Florida -- Named Rookie of The Year in the Big East Conference, he hit .287 with 14 doubles and 26 RBIs. Gordon Beckham, Georgia -- Beckham hit .282 with 11 doubles, 10 homers and 36 RBI. Ben Soignier, Louisiana-Monroe -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Southland Conference, he hit .348 with 10 doubles, 5 homers and 29 RBI. He also stole 19 bases. Shon Landry, McNeese St. -- A first team Southland Conference selection, Landry hit .284 with 10 doubles, 1 homer, 2 triples and 20 RBI. He also swiped 19 bases. Buster Posey, Florida St. -- Posey hit .356 with 10 doubles, 4 homers and knocked in 39 runs.

Third Basemen Pedro Alvarez, Vanderbilt -- Collegiate Baseball's national Freshman Player of The Year, Alvarez was also a first team Southeastern Conference pick and Freshman of The Year in the league. He belted 22 homers, 15 doubles and knocked in 64 runs as he swiped 7 of 10 bases and hit .329. Kevin McAvoy, Maine -- Named Rookie of The Year in the America East Conference, he hit .366 with 7 homers, 10 doubles and 55 RBI. Derek Wiley, Belmont -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Atlantic Sun Conference, he belted 14 homers, 10 doubles and hit .325 with 37 RBI. Aaron Bray, N.C. Charlotte -- Named Rookie of The Year in the Atlantic 10 Conference and also a second team Atlantic 10 pick, he hit .370 with 8 doubles, 4 triples, 29 RBI and swiped 17 bases. Conor Gillaspie, Wichita St. -- Gillaspie, a first team Missouri Valley Conference selection, hit .320 with 14 doubles, 5 homers and knocked in 44 runs. Chase d'Arnaud, Pepperdine -- A first team West Coast Conference pick, he hit .287 with 11 doubles and knocked in 13 runs for the Waves. Cameron Brown, Richmond -- A second team Atlantic 10 pick, Brown hit .331 with 3 homers, 14 doubles, 1 triple and knocked in 40 runs.

Outfielders Warren McFadden, Tulane -- Named Freshman of The Year in Conference USA, McFadden hit .381 with 22 doubles, 1 homer and 2 triples as he knocked in 48 runs. Jericho Jones, Louisiana Tech. -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Western Athletic Conference and a first team WAC pick as well, he hit .370 with 16 homers and knocked in 56 runs. Roger Kieschnick, Texas Tech. -- A first team Big 12 Conference pick, Kieschnick hit .362 with 7 homers, 14 doubles, 2 triples and 51 RBI. He also swiped 8 bases. Aaron Luna, Rice -- A second team Conference USA pick and a member of the All-Freshmen Conference USA squad, Luna hit .310 with 11 homers, 10 doubles and knocked in 32 runs. Andrew Crisp, South Carolina -- An All-Freshman selection in the Southeastern Conference, Crisp hit .367 with 4 homers, 5 doubles and 12 RBI. Jordan Danks, Texas -- Danks hit .327 with 7 doubles, 2 homers and 5 triples as he knocked in 21 runs with 7 stolen bases. Kyle Russell, Texas -- Russell hit .305 with 10 homers, 8 doubles and 38 RBI. He also swiped 7 bases. Matt Miller, Georgia Southern -- Miller hit .398 with 10 doubles, 3 homers and 17 RBI during a superb 2006 season. Jose Ortiz-Rivera, Bethune-Cookman -- Named Rookie of The Year in the Mid-Eastern Conference, he hit .270 with 50 runs. He also swiped 16 bases. Josh Harrison, Cincinnati -- A third team Big East Conference pick, he hit .348 with 4 homers, 11 doubles and 34 RBI. He also swiped 9 bases. Luke Adkins, Southern Mississippi -- Named to the All-Freshmen Conference USA squad, Adkins hit .322 with 9 doubles, 8 homers and knocked in 41 runs. Mark Goforth, Birmingham Southern -- A second team Big South pick, Goforth hit .365 with 8 doubles, 3 triples and 19 RBI. He also swiped 24 bases. Matt Long, Santa Clara -- A second team West Coast Conference selection and a member of the All-Freshmen West Coast squad, he hit .346 with 8 doubles, 3 triples and 21 RBI. Michael Rockett, Texas-San Antonio -- A first team Southland Conference pick, Rockett hit .360 with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers and 25 RBI. Designated Hitters Mike Bianucci, Auburn -- A first team Southeastern Conference selection, he hit .359 with 13 doubles, 8 homers and 31 RBIs. David Doss, South Alabama -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Sun Belt Conference, Doss hit .407 with 19 doubles, 7 homers and 36 RBI. Josh Workman, Wichita St. -- A second team Missouri Valley Conference pick, Workman hit .342 with 3 homers, 8 doubles, 3 triples and knocked in 31 runs. He also swiped 29 bases. Mike Tamsin, Northeastern -- A member of the All-Rookie team in the Colonial Conference, Tamsin hit .408 with 14 doubles, 3 homers and knocked in 28 runs. Rick Niederhaus, Monmouth -- Named Rookie of The Year in the Northeast Conference, Niederhaus hit .410 with 4 homers, 5 doubles and knocked in 28 runs. Ryan Wiegand, Gonzaga -- A second team West Coast Conference choice, he hit .330 with 15 doubles, 1 homer and knocked in 45 runs. Multiple Position Athletes Jared Prince, Washington St. -- A first team Pac-10 Conference selection, Prince hit .401 with 16 doubles, 9 homers and 58 RBI as he swiped 10 of 14 bases on offense. As a pitcher, he was 6-2 on the mound with a 4.53 ERA. He fanned 32 batters with 15 walks. Alex Buchholz, Delaware -- The Rookie of The Year in the Colonial Conference, Buchholz hit .378 with 18 homers, 16 doubles and 64 RBI as he swiped 8 of 9 bases. On the mound, he posted a 2-0 record with 2 saves and had a 4.91 ERA. Ike Davis, Arizona St. -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Pac-10 Conference, Davis hit .339 with 19 doubles, 9 homers and 65 RBI. As a pitcher, he posted a 2-3 record with 40 strikeouts over 47 1/3 innings. Ryan Gilboy, Austin Peay St. -- A first team Ohio Valley Conference pick, Gilboy hit .361 which ranked eighth-best in the conference. He ranked third among all players in RBI (54) and sixth in slugging percentage (.533). Gilboy played three of the four infield positions and also was the team's DH as he hit 5 homers and 10 doubles. J.B. Shuck, Ohio St. -- Named Freshman of The Year in the Big Ten Conference and also a second team Big Ten pick, Shuck posted a 7-4 record with a 2.18 ERA. On offense, he hit .348 with 6 doubles, and 19 RBI. Jordy Mercer, Oklahoma St. -- Mercer posted a 5-0 record on the mound with a 3.65 ERA with one save. On offense, he hit .275 with 5 doubles, 3 homers and 18 RBI. Josh Romanski, San Diego -- Named Freshman of The Year in the West Coast Conference and a second team West Coast pick, Romanski posted a 5-4 record, 4.50 ERA and fanned 54 batters. On offense, he hit .287 with 4 homers, 6 doubles and 20 RBI. Luis Flores, Houston -- An All-Freshman Conference USA selection, Flores was 5-2 on the mound with a 2.76 ERA and 59 strikeouts. On offense, he hit .302 with 8 homers, 7 doubles and 25 RBI.
